Mary Alice, Tony winning actress, dead at 85

Alice, who appeared in The Matrix: Revolutions, Awakenings and A Different World, died Wednesday (July 27) 

The New York Police Department said she died of natural causes Wednesday at her home in Manhattan. 

Alice had a decades-long career in film and television, adored by many.

She won a Tony Award for her portrayal of Rose Maxson in the Broadway production of "Fences" in 1987

She won an Emmy award in 1993 for her supporting role in the TV series "I'll Fly Away."

Her last acting credit was in the 2005 TV series Kojak, in which she played Joyce.
